Letter to my Mother

Happy Birthday to my out-going, God-loving, blatantly honest, generous, kind, petite, courageous and hilarious mother!!! I love you and admire you so much and can't be more proud to have a mom like you!

I remember when I was a little girl and would see how hard you worked taking care of the business. That gave me the courage to dream big and not be afraid of taking chances in life.

I remember when you would tell me stories of your childhood as I lay in bed at night. I almost couldn't believe that the strong, confident woman beside me was really once a young girl who lived in a third world country filled with poverty and didn't even have her first pair of shoes until she was 13!

I remember when friends betrayed me, when I got a "boo-boo" or lost my markers in school. You were always there for me with the right words to say.

I remember the way you always taught me to be the bigger person, even if that hurt ten times more at the time.

I remember the time you were playing with scissors and accidentally cut my hair right before I had to go out with friends (ugh I was SO mad!)

I remember the pain I saw in your eyes when I did badly in school because you wanted so much more for me in life.

I remember the day I graduated high school, and then college, and knowing that I had made you proud :)

I remember staying up late watching 3-hour indian movies with you on the couch. Lots of tears and laughter!

I remember how completely bittersweet it was on my wedding day, knowing that I had entered a new stage of life and couldn't run into your arms anytime something went wrong.

I cherish the fact that you are not only my confidant, prayer partner, and workout buddy; you are also my friend.

I love you, mom!

love always,

p.s. - this counts for Mother's Day too, right? Haha!

And you do know you will never be able to top this post in your mother's eyes. ;)

What a very sweet post to your mama. It amazes me how much closer my mom and I have gotten as I have gotten older. It makes me so mad at myself for every time in the past I was so mean to her or called her the B word when I was young and stupid and mad at her. She is the best!
